Preservation Commission to Host Special Presentation

Preservation Commission to Host “Building Blocks for Working Together: Connecting the HPC, Contractors and Realtors for a Better Westfield”

The Westfield Historic Preservation Commission invites architects, builders and realtors to attend a special presentation designed to clarify the new preservation ordinance on Monday, February 22, at 7:30 p.m. The presentation will be part of the Commission’s regularly scheduled virtual meeting, which is hosted on Zoom and can be accessed through the town’s website at westfieldnj.gov.

Enitled “Building Blocks for Working Together: Connecting the HPC, Contractors and Realtors for a Better Westfield,” the presentation will feature a review of the revised ordinance by HPC Chair Maria Boyes and a discussion of preservation-appropriate design and materials by architect and HPC member Greg Blasi. A Q&A session will follow.

“The HPC can be a great ally in renovating an older home,” said Ms. Boyes. “Members willingly share their expertise in providing historical context and design advice. In addition, there are potential advantages to designating a property historic that many owners are not aware of.” The presentation will include examples of recent projects and transactions that have benefited from early interaction with the HPC.

Established by municipal ordinance, Westfield’s Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is charged with preserving historical sites and structures while fostering an appreciation for these landmarks as an essential element of the town’s unique character. For more information, visit westfieldnj.gov/historicpreservation or email HPC@westfieldnj.gov
