Watchung Arts Center Exhibits “Images/Poems” by Howard Berelson

April 30, 2015 (Watchung, NJ) – Howard Berelson is a poet as well as a visual artist. Howard’s poems and images will be on display in the Lower Gallery of the Watchung Arts Center during the month of June. This is the third is a series of exhibitions featuring the works of artists selected by the New Art Group in their “Solo Show Competition”, held in the fall of 2014. An opening reception will be held on June 7 from 1-4 PM.

Howard Berelson started his career as a children’s book illustrator. Twenty five years later, he was awarded a teaching fellowship for the New Jersey State Council on the Arts – Art in Education program. He taught for 26 years, integrating curriculum with various art forms as different pathways to learning. He found that when he started to write, the discipline he achieved and his sensitivity to the written word enhanced his visual work as it evolved. He considers the Poet-as-Observer and Visual-Artist-as-Observer are one and the same. He was awarded Honorable Mention in the 2013 Allen Ginsberg Poetry Awards. His publication credits include: The Paterson Literary Review; The Great Falls, An Anthology of Poems about Paterson, New Jersey; and Lips.
