Spring Greetings To Everyone!

Below I have highlighted some of programs that we will be offering during the month.

June 3 ~ FREE Derma Scan Health Screenings with the Overlook Medical Center’s Mobile

Health Van ~ 10:15 am ~ Call (908) 753-9440 to schedule your FREE 10 – minute

appointment.

 

June 8 ~ “New Jersey Owls” by Carrie Springer, Naturalist, Somerset County Park

Commission, Environmental Center ~ 10:30 am ~ Learn about the nocturnal world of these fascinating birds of prey.  Whether long or short earred, barred or great horned, these raptors are truly special.

 

June 9 ~ “Whole Grains” by Rachel Simpers, Registered Dietitian, Shoprite of

Stirling/Wakefern ~ 11:15 am ~ The healthiest kinds of grains are whole grains.  Find out why they are nutritionally superior to refined grains and creative ways to prepare them; enjoy a taste of a Wheat Berry and White Bean Salad with Honey Mustard Vinaigrette.

 

June 15 ~ “Affordable Housing” by Kristie Barbolt, Executive Assistant and Counselor,

Central Jersey Housing Resource Center ~ 10:30 am ~ Kristie will discuss affordable housing options, living situations and housing rehabilitation programs and will highlight the latest housing scams.

 

June 16 ~ “Flavian, Mind-Reader” ~ 10:30 am ~ Think of a phone number…a date…a pet’s

name…anything at all and see if Flavian can tell what you’re thinking.  This program involves audience participation.  It is fun, amazing and exciting all at the same time.  It is truly a mystical mind-reading show.

 

PROGRAM TO BE HELD AT THE SENIOR WELLNESS CENTER IN BASKING RIDGE

June 26 ~ Visit the Senior Wellness Center for “Sharing the World with Raptorsby Karen

Whitehurst, Educator, Raptor Trust ~ 10:45 am ~ Discover the similarities and differences between hawks and owls, and learn about the biology and ecology of these unique predatory birds. Get to know the common resident species of New Jersey and meet one of the state’s common raptors (a live raptor will be visiting as part of the presentation).  County Transportation will take regularly scheduled members to and from the Senior Wellness Center.  Lunch will not be available at Warrenbrook.

 

June 29 ~ “Self-Defense Basic Safety” by Paul Kilduff and Paul Domen, Master Instructors,

Golden Rule Karate and Fitness ~ 10:30 am ~ Do you believe that self-defense techniques are just for men and police officers?  Back by popular demand, attendees will learn how to improve their safety with basic self-defense moves anyone of any age can learn.  This class will also help you become more aware of your surroundings so you can better protect yourself wherever you go.
