Get Back To Scouting

During the last week of July, Boy Scout Troop 228 had a ton of fun at Camp Winnebago. This year’s theme was “Get Back To Scouting.”

The days started off by getting up and raising the American flag and listening to any morning announcements. After that, we headed to the dining hall for breakfast. The chefs and staff made the food, but every Troop organized and assigned scouts to waiter. This meant that you had to set the tables and also put the food on the table. Cleaning up all the tables at the end of the meal was the hardest part. After meals, Scouts had the option to rest at camp or attend merit badge classes. A sample of merit badges that could be completed were Swimming, Welding, Rifle, Shotgun, First Aid, Fingerprinting, Art, and many more. After lunch, you also had a lot of fun activities to try. Some of these were zip lining over the lake, swimming in the lake, open shooting at the range, or working on other merit badges.

Ethan Hammond, First Class Scout, said “it was super fun.”

In the evening, Scouts could complete the Fire Watch Badge. This included watching the campfire and making sure it didn’t extinguish overnight. Some of the younger scouts participated in the Dan Beard Program. This program allowed them to complete necessary rank requirements.

Kieran Mungekar, Scout, commented that “[the] Dan Beard [program] was a blast.”

Overall, the Scouts had a blast at Camp Winnebago and can’t wait to go back next year!
