Lecture/Slideshow: The Jewelry Collection at the Newark Museum. Tuesday, June 19 at 7 p.m.
Newark was the center of America’s Jewelry design and manufacture from post-Civil War into the 20th century. The role of jewelry in American life was transformed in the 19th century when a growing middle class could afford to buy the mass-produced and less expensive pieces. This slideshow presentation will highlight the growth of what was, at the time, Newark’s third largest industry. Within that context, exquisite examples from the Newark Museum Jewelry Collection produced in Newark will be reviewed along with more modern, outside-of-Newark manufactured objects which round out the collection.

Concert: Ellen LaFurn, “A Fun Trip through the American Songbook” Sunday, June 24, 2018, 2 to 3 p.m.
Jazz vocalist Ellen LaFurn, accompanied by Vic Cenicola on guitar and Ron Naspo on bass, will perform selections from the Great American Songbook. The performance will include selections from their new album, “C’est La-Furn!”
