SAGE Eldercare Holds Ninth Annual Senior Prom

SAGE Eldercare held its 9th annual Senior Prom on June 19, 2019, for participants of SAGE’s Spend-A-Day Adult Day Health Care Program and their families. The event had a Rockin’ 50’s theme and included music, dancing and ice cream sodas. The main attraction was entertainer Stephen Fuller, who sang a mix of popular pop songs and classic dance tunes. Participants were either up dancing or singing along in their seats.

Community support was provided by Lois Shanker of Right at Home in Chatham and Laurie Gaulke of Mary Kay Cosmetics who did nails and makeup and Taylor Rental in Berkeley Heights who donated a festive balloon bouquet.

“The prom is always a special day at SAGE,” said Susan Wirth, SAGE’s Manager of Recreation and Volunteer Outreach. “The staff works hard to pull everything together from the invitations and flowers to the food and decorations. It’s a wonderful team effort and a great day for our Spend-A-Day participants.”

SAGE’s Spend-A-Day Adult Day Health Center provides older adults with structured social, physical and cognitive activities, meals planned by a registered dietician, and support for participants and families from a geriatric social worker. Spend-A-Day is licensed by the Department of Health and Senior Services as an adult day medical program and is staffed with a full-time nurse to medically supervise the participants. Additional support is provided by physical, occupational and speech therapists. Since 1975, SAGE’s Spend-A-Day Adult Day Health Center has been providing much-needed respite for family and caregivers and a “home away from home” for the participants, in a safe and secure environment.
