Rahway HS Art Students Create to Donate

Submitted by Rob Kinch

Hope. It is the beauty and the magic which imbues the beginning of every new year. Thanks to the creative talents of Rahway High School Art Instructor Katherine Turon’s students, their hope that a cure would be found in the fight against pediatric cancer was evident in their very special donation to the St. Jude Children’s Cancer Research Hospital.
As part of the high school’s Holiday of Hope dinner event at Luciano’s Restaurant in December 2017, the students created 100 original, hand-crafted ornaments which were sold to guests who, in turn, hung them on a special Hope tree also designed and executed in the school’s art studio. Through the sale of their ornaments, along with the many additional generous donations by guests, the students succeeded in raising $900 for their gift to Saint Jude.
“It was inspiring to see all my students wanting to donate a little piece of themselves to help children in need whom they have never met and to help those who love them as well,” offers Ms. Turon. “Every ornament represented not only hope for St. Jude’s, but hope for a better world and a togetherness of all races, cultures, and backgrounds.”
