Protect Me With 3+ Poster Contest

Submitted by Linda Lampert

5th-grade students in Mrs. Venisha Jordan’s science classes at Franklin Elementary School in Rahway participated in the Protect Me With 3+ poster contest. This statewide contest is held annually in collaboration with The Partnership for Maternal and Child Health of Northern New Jersey and the New Jersey Department of Health. Targeting youth in middle and high schools, the contest aims to raise awareness about the importance of adolescent immunizations among pre-teens, teenagers, and parents, and increase vaccination rates for several important vaccines, such as Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Meningococcal Conjugate, and Flu.

In order to prepare for the contest, Mrs. Barbara Maher, the school’s nurse, taught the kids about vaccinations and the importance of getting their 6th-grade vaccinations. After the lesson, students created posters and submitted them.

Franklin School is proud of Nicole Garcia and Jason Afum. Nicole’s poster was chosen as the 2nd place winner and Jason’s was chosen as a finalist.
