February 4 at 11 a.m. – Chinese New Year Storytime (All Ages)
Join us for a special storytime celebrating the Chinese New Year!

February 4 at 3 p.m. – Paper Lantern Craft for Chinese New Year
(Teens & Tweens Grades 5-12)
Come celebrate the Chinese New Year by making pretty red & gold paper lanterns with actual mini lights using circuit tape & mini LED bulbs! Bring a friend and get creative with your own designs. Open to students in grades 5-12. Call, stop by or email to register.

February 4 at 7 p.m. – Knitting Club (Adults)
The knitting club meets once this month, in the Coddington room. Everyone is welcome to bring a knitting or crocheting project that you are working on.

February 6 at 10 a.m. – Storytime with Dr. Singh (Toddlers)
Our regularly scheduled toddler storytime will have a special visitor! Dr. Singh will read a story and do some activities about visiting the dentist for the first time with the kiddos and end with tips and tricks to keep those “sugar bugs” away!

February 7 at 7:30 p.m. – Book Group (Adults)
The book group will discuss The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway. Copies of the book may be picked up at the front desk. Meet in the front corner of the library, in the armchairs. Anyone who has read the book is welcome to attend.

February 9 at 10 a.m. – Who is that at My Bird Feeder? (Adults, Families)
Pete Axelrod, education coordinator at Wild Birds Unlimited in Scotch Plains, will introduce birds that commonly come to backyard feeders and how to distinguish between similar species. Learn how to participate in Audubon’s Great Backyard Birdcount on February 16 – 19, a great way for families to get involved in bird-watching.

February 10 at 3 p.m. – Love Songs of the 60s and 70s – Guitar Concert (Adults)
Rob Heinink, professional guitarist, will play love songs of the 60s and 70s. This free concert was made possible by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library.

February 11 at 3:30 p.m. (Grades K-3)
Get crafty with us! This month we’ll be decorating heart magnets!

February 11 at 7 p.m. – Baseball Discussion Group (Adults)
Anyone with an interest in baseball is welcome to come and talk about your favorite team or players, or just listen.

February 12 at 4 p.m. – Art & Stories with Miss Alyson (Grades K-2)
Join Miss Alyson for a special story, literacy activity & craft.

February 12 at 6 p.m. – Virtual Lunar Tour with Ranger Bob (All Ages)
Ranger Bob will discuss various concepts of lunar phases, eclipses and tides as well as share vivid, close-up images of the Moon’s terrain including Apollo landing sites. After, we’ll take a telescope outside (weather permitting) and share magnificent views of a waxing crescent Moon gliding across the southern skies. Dress warmly! A rain date is scheduled for February 21.

February 12 at 7 p.m. – Paper Flowers in Mini Vases (Adults & Families)
Make a paper flower bouquet out of coffee filters/cupcake liners. Cover a glass jar with a balloon as a mini vase. Free, RSVP required.

February 13 at 3 p.m. – Teen Ear Candy – AudioBooks and Knotted EarBuds (Teens Grades 7-12)
Learn how to download audiobooks and dress up your earbuds so you can enjoy reading on the go! Your lives are so busy, it can be tough to find the time to sit down to read. Now you can listen to audiobooks while working out, doing crafts, or riding in the car from place to place. Remember, listening to audiobooks counts as reading time! Plus, learn an easy way to dress up your earbuds to reflect your own personal style using yarn and embroidery floss. Open to teens in grades 7-12. February 15 at 12-2 p.m. (NP schools closed) – Wii Gaming – Sports (Teen Grades 7-12)
Join your friends at the library during winter break for Wii Sports. No registration necessary, just sign in when you arrive for your turn playing a variety of Wii sports games!

February 19 – Kids Movie: Gnomeo & Juliet (Rated G)
Join us for a movie showing of Gnomeo & Juliet! Two garden gnomes from rival families fall in love and defy everyone around them in order to be together.

February 21 at 10 a.m. – Book Group (Adults)
For this meeting, each book group member is reading a book of their own selection. Come talk about your book and leave with lots of ideas for what to read next! Meet in the front corner of the library, in the armchairs. Everyone is welcome.

February 21 at 3 – 5 p.m. – Escape Room – Escape from Dystopia (Teen Grades 7-12) (Snow Date: February 25)
You’ve gotten lost in many different dystopian worlds by reading the library’s vast collection of YA Dystopia novels. Now it’s time to see if you can find your way home from this dystopian-themed escape room. You’ll need to piece together what you already know from dystopian fiction with new clues hidden in puzzles around the room. Unlock each clue to find your way closer to escape. This new world is darker than ours. Who can escape to get back to the light of the real world? The only way to find out is to register. Register individually, or in teams. February 26 at 3:30 p.m. – LEGO Club (Grades 1 & up)
Come build with us! Try the monthly challenge or build any creation you’d like!

February 28 at 3-5 p.m. – Wii Gaming – Just Dance (Teen Grades 7-12)
It’s dancing day at the library! We’re bringing out all of our dance-related Wii games for a Just Dance party in the Coddington Room. Bring some friends and see who has the best moves. No registration required.

Teen Study Space (Middle & High School Students)
Reserved space in the library for all teens who need a quiet place to read and work. Tables, chairs and wifi available. Come with a study group, help out a friend, or just get your own work done. Drop in & out as needed. No registration required.
