Art of the Mask Community Art Show (All Ages)
All Month
This year’s Community Art Show features masks made by New Providence residents, along with ceramic masks made by artist Leslie Jacobsen of the Potters Guild of New Jersey. This exhibit explores the long history of masks and the many uses and meanings of the word “mask.” Curated by the Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library, the show runs through the end of July in the Conti room and in the reading area.

Sign up for Teen Volunteer SR Prize Delivery! (Teens)

Summer Reading 2022 will kick off on June 27 and we need teen volunteers to help! Starting June 1, teens going into grades 7-12 next year can sign up to work 2-hour shifts inside the library at our Summer Reading table. Help people sign up, assist with online registration, and hand out prizes! Earn volunteer hours in the air-conditioned library! The link to the SignUp Genius will go live on June 1. Sign Up for Java Programming Course (Teens)
June 1-24
7-12th grade students: Join us for this 8-week course to learn basic Java programming concepts, including Data types and Operators, Classes and Methods, Execution Control, Loops, Object Oriented Programming, File Input/Output and more, taught by Muhammad Javed. Students are required to bring their own laptops to this class and are expected to attend all 8 sessions. All sessions will be in person at the NP Library from 7-8PM on Mondays or Tuesdays (July 18, 25, Aug 2, 9, 15, 22, 29, 30). Register BY JUNE 24 via email.

Garden State: Living Off the Land in 19th Century New Jersey (Adults)
June 2 @ 7 PM – 8 PM
Explore the agricultural history of New Jersey and its profound influence on farming today and learn what it was like to live and work on a 19th-century New Jersey farm with a museum educator from the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts. Boogie Woogie Babies (Babies & Caregivers)
June 7 @ 10:30 AM
Join our Boogie Woogie Babies dance class! Music & movement program for baby & their caregiver or parent. Open toddlers, ages 2-4.

Book Group (Adults)
June 9 @ 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM
The book group will discuss “Nomadland” by Jessica Bruder, who met older Americans from all walks of life on routes between seasonal jobs. Car Care & Maintenance for Real Life & the Zombie Apocalypse (Teens)

Come learn the basics of good auto care to keep your vehicle running (or outrunning the zombies)! The pros from NP Fuel will come to the library parking lot to teach teens the basics in car care and maintenance for new drivers. Learn basic skills every driver should know like: how to check your oil, check your tire pressure, change your wiper blades, jump a battery, change a tire, and more. Open to High School students. Jazz Guitar Concert with Abe Ovadia (All Ages)
June 12 @ 2 PM – 3 PM
Abe Ovadia will perform a jazz guitar concert. Musicvox Guitars describes Abe Ovadia as a “jazz virtuoso.” Times Square New York City says, “You can always count on him to happily claim the responsibility of playing some world-class jazz.” Please arrive early as seating
is limited.

Pick Up June Teen Take Out Boxes (Teens)
June 13 @ 3:00PM
If you signed up and received confirmation for the June box, check your email to see when yours is ready to be picked up in the library. Keep the goodies, just return the library book when you finish! This will be the LAST Teen Take Out until fall.

Batter Up – Let’s Talk Baseball (All Ages)
June 13 @ 7 PM- 9 PM
Come discuss teams, players and issues of the sport with other baseball enthusiasts. Now in its eighth year, this group welcomes all ages of fans. To join the group, stop by the reference desk or email the library.

Movie & Discussion (Adults)
June 14 @ 1 PM – 3 PM
The drama “Miss Juneteeth” will be screened in the Conti room. A former beauty queen and single mom prepares her rebellious teenage daughter for the “Miss Juneteenth” pageant. This unrated film is in English with subtitles for the hearing impaired. Everyone is welcome to join an informal discussion of the movie afterward, moderated by library staff.

Final Exam Days (Teens)
June 16, 17, 20
Short days? Lots of studying? Come to the NP Library for a quiet refuge! De-stress and play an old-school board game with a friend. Work on your vocabulary with a game of Scrabble. Or meet with a study group to get some last minute cramming in. The library is here for you!

SUMMER READING 2022 KICKOFF!! (All Ages)

It’s here! Summer Reading 2021 begins on June 27 and will run through August 19. Register online via ReadSquared to track your reading progress, earn badges, complete missions, attend programs and earn prizes! We’ll have loads to do for Preschoolers, Kids in grades K-5, Teens in grades 6-12 and Adults ages 18+.

Storytime at the Library: IN-PERSON Storytime Returns!
Storytimes will be held outside when weather permits. In case of rain, morning outdoor storytime will be inside the library’s large Conti meeting room.

Outdoor Storytime for little ones! Bring your babies and toddlers for stories, rhymes and socialization. Bring a blanket to sit on outside.
No Storytime on Tues, June 7. Boogie Woogie Babies will be outside on the lawn, instead.
