Mountainside Detective Stephen Devito Retires After 25 Years of Service

(above) The Mountainside Police Department walked Stephen Devito out of the building one last time to begin his well earned retirement on Thursday, August 13, 2020. Mayor Mirabelli and borough staff joined with members of the police department, many on their days off, and retired members who Steve worked with, all came in to share the moment with him.

Detective Stephen Devito Retires

Congratulations to Detective Stephen Devito on his retirement after 25 years of service. Steve, who grew up in Mountainside, served a patrol officer, detective, and a firearms instructor and earned numerous service awards over his career. He served 20 years in the N.J. National Guard as an artilleryman and was deployed to Germany as a military police supervisor during the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.

Chief Joseph Giannuzzi stated “We thank him for his many years of dedicated service to the Borough, his fellow police officers, and wish him well in this next chapter of his life.”
