Mayor Victor Sordillo of Warren Township was a guest on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. for “Hill Day” sponsored by American Small Manufacturers Coalition. He met with several legislators urging them to step up efforts to promote manufacturing through innovation and skill development. Mayor Sordillo is a Trustee of the New Jersey (NJMEP) Manufacturing Extension Partnership. NJMEP is a federal public-private initiative that supports manufacturers throughout the country. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) provides partial funding and oversight. MEPs provide technical support and employ industry experts to work directly with manufacturers. This includes consultation on insurance, human resources, supply chain management, codes & standards compliance, manufacturing technologies, et al. Mr. Sordillo stated to the legislators that entrepreneurs take risks when establishing a business and we must help them identify and minimize all potential downsides to the risks that they are taking. New Jersey residents pay over $150 billion in federal taxes each year; while we rank in the top ten givers of taxes, we rank in the bottom five receivers of federal grants.
