Mary Kate Mueller Named Top Scholar

Mary Kate Mueller, 23, was born and raised in Cranford. Recently, she was nominated as the Top Scholar of her LIU Global College Class of 2017, also winning the Global Citizen Award. Global College is a four-year undergraduate degree in Global Studies with Long Island University’s Global College (www.liu.edu/global). This unique program, based on cultural immersion, language learning and the study of key global issues in different regions of the world, has taken Mary Kate to live, study and work in ten countries on five continents. Mary Kate has been studying local cultures, languages and perspectives on key global issues in Costa Rica (with time spent in Nicaragua and Panama); Spain (with time spent in Morocco, the UK and France), Australia (with time spent in Indonesia) and China. With its experiential focus and emphasis on learning from and with local communities, the program helps students develop crucial skills in critical thinking, perspective-taking and cross-cultural communication.
