Linden Parks and Recreation Offer Youth STEM Classes

Youth STEM Classes

City of Linden

Linden Department of Parks and Recreation is offering two Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) classes for children ages 6-12. The following programs will be offered at the Linden Multi-Purpose Building, 1025 John St. Pre-registration is required and must be done at least one week before the start of class.

Crime Scene Investigation: Become a Super Science Sleuth! Learn about forensics, crime scene investigations, and crime lab chemistry as you perform experiments designed to show you just how those tricky cases are solved. Search for evidence, gather clues, and discover how science can help solve a mystery! Dust for and classify fingerprints, analyze handwriting, test for blood type and DNA using simulated blood, and use “Glow Blood” to see where humans can’t see. Examine hair and clothing fibers, practice chemistry to identify mystery substances, and much more. Saturday, March 5, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Fee: $25.

LEGO Building & Machines: Have fun building a LEGO adventure from the many themes that Lego has to offer. We offer projects from Lego Star Wars, City, Architecture, Friends, Creator, and many new themes. Projects vary depending on availability from LEGO headquarters, but include new, age-appropriate models such as cranes and a player piano that illustrate science concepts. Participants choose from models listed and will not have time to build all models. All participants take home a LEGO mini-project. Saturday, March 19, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Fee: $25.
