Linden Police Unity Tour 2018

Submitted by Lt. Christopher Guenther

The Linden Police Department and the City of Linden sponsored 12 officers to represent Team Linden in the annual Police Unity Tour. The Police Unity tour is an annual four-day, 200 plus mile bike ride to honor and raise awareness for the over 20,000 Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty. Thanks to the generosity of their sponsors, Team Linden raised nearly $30,000 to this year to benefit the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum.
The tour began on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at the World Trade Center. Linden always begins the ride in New York City with Chapter 37 of the tour, started by Port Authority Police Officers in honor of the 37 Port Authority Police Officers killed in the line of duty on September 11, 2001. Later that afternoon the tour, led by members of the Linden Police Motor Unit, were greeted by dozens of community members, elected officials, and students as they made their way down Wood Ave to City Hall.
The riders stopped for a short break, where they were welcomed by Mayor Derek Armstead and Police Chief David Hart. “It is an honor to be with you as we remember our fallen brothers and sisters of this great and honorable profession,” said the Chief. “Thank you for making this trip; thank you for ensuring that their sacrifice, and the sacrifice of their loved ones, is remembered.”
