2nd Grade Students Learn About MAP Skills

Students in 2nd grade were engaged and having fun during the month of June working hard on MAP skills. Ms. Collemi and Ms. Caplanis read the story “Me on the Map” by Joan Sweeney with the class and gave students the opportunity to discuss their planet, continent, country, state, city and all the places they have explored. Beyond touring the world from the classroom, students were able to bring Flat Stanley home and write about their adventures together. For the conclusion of the project, families visited the classroom to watch students present their projects while sampling delicious foods from their family’s country of origin.

Madison Walker brought Flat Stanley to meet the Principal at School No. 10 in Linden and expressed her excitement stating, “Stanley and I went to School No. 10 in Linden to visit my dad at work. Stanley helped my dad be the principal. Stanley and I played hide and seek with the secretaries.”

Julianna Richter explored another country and told the class about her adventures. “My favorite place I took Stanley was the ocean in the Bahamas. I put him in, but he got all soggy because he forgot his bathing suit! He sat on the rocks and watched us play with the beach ball. He loved being on the airplane.”

And in the month of June when you’re eagerly anticipating summer, what better place to bring Flat Stanley than the Jersey Shore. “I went to the Seaside Heights boardwalk with Stanley and we had so much fun! We went to the jumping place and Stanley watched me! I loved having Stanley with me,” said Kennedy Richardson.

The teachers, parents and staff all enjoyed watching the children participate in this project while having fun and learning at the same time.
