The Junior League of Summit (JLS) hosted its second annual Intergenerational Leadership Summit on February 5th at The Summit Speech School. The event brought together girls, women, and gender-expansive individuals of all ages for collaborative training exercises that helped empower them to make a difference within themselves and the community. JLS Projects Co-Chair and DEI&B (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) Director, Jee-Hoon Krska commented, “What makes the Intergenerational Leadership Summit so unique is that it brings together multiple generations of individuals from various backgrounds to share insights and experiences. Participants hear from folks they may not otherwise encounter, and they all have the rare opportunity to learn and grow together. This event is a beautiful example of how the League is advancing DEI&B within our community and carrying out the mission of empowering individuals to be leaders and make a difference. “

The event began with an Interactive Panel Discussion with panelists Millie Cooper, Former Summit Councilwoman, Theresa Gazaway, Retired New Providence Police Chief, Dr. Marcia Heard, Arts Educator and Executive Director of ACCA Creates, and Claire Harrison, Founder of the Summit Free Market. Panelists discussed the topic of Turning Passion Into Action to Serve Others. The second portion of the event consisted of dynamic workshops centered around the theme of Strengthening Connections. The facilitators were Psychotherapist, Jamie Hanley, Licensed Professional Counselor, Kelly Medvin, and Executive Director of Women’s Center for Entrepreneurship, Rana Shanawani.

The event was held at The Summit Speech School, which was founded by the JLS in 1967. Anita Tung, event planning committee member, stated, “We truly believe that everyone has something to offer and something to learn, no matter their age, educational background, or life experience. This year’s event reflected the power and energy created when thoughtful, compassionate people engage with one another, exchange stories and experiences, and learn new skills. We are extremely pleased with how this event has grown since our inaugural event last spring, and we look forward to the possibilities next year’s event may hold!”
