Hats On for the CVES

Valley Road School recently held its annual “Hats On for the CVES”. Mrs. Lorraine Haney, a teacher at Valley Road School, has spearheaded this event for over ten years. Proceeds from the event were donated to on the Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad (CVES). Ms. Haney’s daughter, Erin formerly served on CVES and still serves as an EMT in the corporate world.

Students were invited to wear a hat and make a contribution in support of CVES. “This fundraiser has been very important to me personally, and I am so proud of our VRS students, families, and community for so generously supporting the Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad,” expressed Mrs. Haney. Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Ed Grande, and PTA President, Darlene Alicea, also expressed their pride in seeing the participation by the students.

Mrs. Haney uses the event as a learning opportunity. She explains to the children that hearing sirens shouldn’t be frightening. She wants the students to understand that ambulances are rushing to help people so they shouldn’t feel panicked when they hear sirens.

Helping Mrs. Haney this year were first graders, Joseph Merlo and Charlotte Dinnocenzio, from Ms. Cozzi’s class. Charlotte is new to Valley Road School and wants to be a doctor. Joe enjoys video games and want to be a soccer player when he grows up.

Donations are gratefully accepted by sending a check to The Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad at 875 Raritan Road, Clark, New Jersey 07066. Anyone with questions or interested in joining the Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad is invited to contact the Corresponding Secretary at salacchi@hotmail.com for an application.
