Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration
Rahway Public Schools
Sun-filled blue skies and moderate fall temperatures created the perfect atmosphere for Grover Cleveland’s Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrationon Saturday, October 16th.
Over the last month, beginning on September 15th, Grover students and staff engaged in various activities to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions that people of Latinx have made to our society. This year 2021 national celebration took place from September 15th through October 15th. The origins of Hispanic Heritage Month dates back to 1968 when it was celebrated for only a week. In 1988 it became a month-long celebration. September 15th is an important day as several Latin American countries celebrate their independence on that day.
With many of our students representing several Latin American countries, there is so much to celebrate. The culmination of the month-long celebration ended with a family fun day at Grover Cleveland. Staff, students, and their families had an opportunity to play games such as dominoes, a popular game widely played within the Latin community. The Grover families were seen playing an organized soccer game. Arts and crafts, music, displays from various countries, Zumba, and food brought our community together. Here are a few photos in case you missed it, it was a great time.
On behalf of Mr. Giambrone, he would like to thank the committee that organized the event, Ms. Dumani, Ms. Moncayo, Mr. Landy, Ms. Prutzman, Ms. Geis, and Ms. Plowman. He would also like to thank the PTA and all the staff that came out with their families. Most importantly, he would like to thank all of the Grover students and parents that came out to celebrate.
