NAACP Kwanzaa Celebration
Submitted by Rahway Public Schools
The NAACP Rahway Branch celebrated Kwanzaa at the Rahway Recreation Center in December. A few students from Rahway’s Franklin Elementary School’s Gifted & Talented Program were honored to participate in the program. The students’ role in the celebration was to present the eight Kwanzaa symbols and dress the table. After the program, the students explored all that was offered during the day. These activities included face painting, visiting vendors, reusable tote decorating, and photo opportunities.
To thank the Franklin students, NAACP Rahway Branch President, Ms. Quanae Chambliss, the NAACP board, and its program partners gave “Kuumba” Bags. Each participant received a bag full of STEM-related items to help them continue their discovery and critical thinking journey in anticipation that they too will excel in the sciences to correct the damage we have done to the planet and heal the land.
