Franklin Elementary School Unity Day

Blue and Gold Club members from Franklin Elementary School in Rahway created their own holiday called, “Unity Day” and they enjoyed celebrating this holiday with the residents at the Atria Assisted Living Community in Cranford. The idea behind this special holiday was to create unity and friendship among all of the residents. In order to get ready for this day, members of the club worked diligently for about a month making bookmarks and unity wands for the 100 residents.

When club members went to Atria on Thursday, April 11, 2019, each resident received a ribbon. The ribbons were woven together to create a unity board to show the residents how they are a community that is woven together. They also each received a puzzle piece which was glued to a large bunny on a piece of wood to show how they are all an important piece of the puzzle.

The residents enjoyed singing songs, coloring, and playing games with the club members, while band members played music for the residents. Everyone had a really great time. The new holiday was a great success.

The Blue and Gold Club at Franklin Elementary School is a school-based club made up of students that volunteer their time throughout the year to help with many different community service activities. The club is overseen by the school’s nurse, Mrs. Barbara Maher and also Ms. Kym Adams. Keep up the great work kids!
