Sewing and quilting come to Rahway, as a new studio opens for DIY enthusiasts who are “cut from a different cloth.”
Located at 1417 Main Street in the Arts District of downtown Rahway, NJ, the Cultured Expressions Sewing & Quilting Studio (the “CE Studio”) will offer gorgeous fabrics, embellishments and supplies for sewing, quilting and decorating with cultural flair…PLUS, a workshop space equipped with Janome sewing machines allows students to create quilts, handbags, home accents, gifts and more. Workshops are geared to all skill levels, and Janome machines are also available for purchase.
Here you’ll find all of the creative inspiration offered through Cultured Expressions’ long-established online shop ( and various on-location events, plus some fun extras that are not to be missed! Ghanaian batiks, bogolan/mudcloth from Mali, kuba raffia fabrics from central Africa and ankara cotton prints are among the unique fabrics available in the studio, along with kits, embellishments and basics and supplies to support the workshops as well as take-home projects. In addition, a boutique area will feature one-of-a-kind sewn items for those who prefer not to make it themselves.
The studio is just one block from Rahway train station, and right across the street from the covered parking deck. “So we’re within easy reach for all of our friends in NY, PA, CT, MD, DE, and beyond! We’re putting together special offers for groups, so bring your tribe and make a day of it – the downtown area also has great restaurants and shopping nearby,” explains Lisa Shepard Stewart, owner of the specialty company and its new studio space.
The studio launches with a Holiday Boutique from 12 noon to 6pm on Friday and Saturday, November 25-26, in advance of the December 1-3 Grand Opening weekend.
