Children’s Programs

Storytime Yoga

February 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29, 2024 @ 10:15AM – 11:00AM

Children ages 2-5 and a caregiver are invited to join us for Storytime Yoga! This is an active class for very young learners, caregivers are expected to assist their children. While advance registration is not required, space is limited and is available on a first come, first served basis. Tickets are available at the Children’s Desk on the morning of the program. This free program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Cranford residents only, please.

Groundhog Day Story and Craft

February 2 @ 10:15AM – 10:45AM

Come in for a short story and a cute craft to celebrate Groundhog’s Day. No registration needed.

Kids Can Cook: Lunar New Year

Children ages 7 and up are invited to this fun cooking class. Toddler Tuesday

Join us for a storytime especially for toddlers! Each session incorporates stories and a hands-on activity. Registration is not required, but space is limited and may be unavailable to latecomers. This event will be held in room 201 of the Cranford Community Center.

Crafters in grades 4+ are invited to hang out and decorate their own tote bags. We’ll primarily be using fabric markers, but we’ll also have some sewing supplies on hand for anyone who feels up to adventuring into hand stitching!

Theater Project

The Friends of the Cranford Public Library invite everyone to attend a live theatrical performance -back in person! New Jersey’s own Theater Project will present a reading of an original short play. The reading will be followed by a question and answer session with the audience, director, playwright and cast. Funds benefiting the Theater Project have been provided by the Union County LAP Grant and the Friends of the Cranford Public Library. No registration needed!

Let’s have fun making Lego creations to display in the library! This group welcomes friends on September 7th from 6:00-7:00pm.Lego pieces will be provided by the Library. This is a drop-in program.

Glitter Storytime, ages 5-10

Settle in and listen to Glitter Everywhere: where it came from, where it’s found & where it’s going by Chris Barton and Chaaya Prabhat. After sharing the book, we’ll explore with prisms and light. This storytime is best suited to children ages 5-10, no registration is required.

Cookbook Club–Monday, February 5, at 6 p.m.

After the success of our December Cookie Swap, we are excited to start an on-going Cookbook Club! Come hungry and ready to swap your recipes and dishes on Monday, February 5, at 6pm. Please note any allergens for your dish. This month we are using the Smitten Kitchen cookbooks. Cookbooks are available to check out at the library.

Movie Night–Wednesday, February 7, at 7 p.m.

Movies are back! Join us the first Wednesday of the month for a screening of a recently released DVD! Please visit our website or contact the library for film titles. 

Literary Cafe–Saturday, February 10, at 10:15 a.m.

Literary Café is a book chat program. The format is simple: Bring a few of your recent favorite books and tell the other members of the group what you like about them. If you don’t have a copy of the book you want to talk about, that’s okay, too. The books can be new or old, fiction or non-fiction, classic or contemporary. There is no required reading, and you will have the opportunity to learn about books recommended by other group members. Attend as many sessions as you’d like. Admission is free and all are welcome. Refreshments sponsored by the Friends of the Cranford Public Library. Patrons are welcome to join us in person or online.

International Film–Monday, February 12, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

International films are back! Join us for an International film screening. The same film will be shown at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Please contact the library for the film title.

Join us for another fun evening of trivia on Wednesday, January 10, at 7 p.m. This free event is hosted by the Friends of the Cranford Public Library! Join us in the Community Room on the first floor of the Community Center! Feel free to bring your own snacks and (non-alcoholic) drinks. Prizes awarded to the winning team. Readers Forum–Monday, February 26, at 7 p.m.

All are welcome at the Readers Forum Book Discussion Group. This month’s book is The School for Good Mothers by Jessamine Chan. 

From Jazz to Soul Concert–Tuesday, February 27, at 7 p.m.

Songs from the 30s thru the 70s — A musical journey from the era when the “First Lady Of Song,” Ella Fitzgerald graced the stage to when the “Queen of Soul,” Aretha Franklin ruled the airways. In addition to Ella and Aretha, this showcase pays tribute to Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Nancy Wilson, Etta James, Martha & The Vandellas, Mary Wells, and Gladys Knight. Vocalist Rhonda Denet is accompanied by a trio of musicians in this performance. Sponsored by the Friends of the Cranford Public Library. No registration needed.
