Cranford Community Center Taking Appointments for Tax Counseling

The Cranford Recreation and Parks Department in conjunction with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) will be taking appointments for free tax assistance.
Cranford and Garwood taxpayers can call the Recreation and Parks Department at 709-7283 to reserve a time slot time with a tax practitioner. Hourly appointments are being made on either Mondays or Fridays beginning Friday, February 2, 2018 from 12:00 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.  All appointments will be at the Cranford Community Center, 220 Walnut Avenue in Room 204. The last appointment to receive tax assistance will be Monday April 16, 2018. No appointments will be made on Monday, February 19, 2018 (Presidents’ Day) and Friday, March 30, 2018 (Good Friday), as the Community Center will be closed.
This service is for residents of Cranford and Garwood, and is geared to senior citizens and area residents with low to moderate income. Filing assistance is provided for federal and NJ state income tax returns, and the Property Tax Reimbursement Program (PTR 1&2). Federal and state returns are filed electronically.
Participants should bring the following information: copies of Federal & State returns for 2016 along with 2017 wages, interest, dividends, capital gains, social security, etc. (forms 1099, 1099R,1099B-W2 & SSA), and property tax bill (2017). A form of identification and, if requesting direct deposit or payment, please bring a blank check showing account number and routing number.
