December Events at the Clark Public Library

Clark Public Library December 2020 Events

Our doors have opened! Reduced hours are in effect. The capacity will be reduced and we will be practicing social distancing. Masks will be required when in the building. We are still offering curbside pickup while open for in person visits! Our librarians are here to help with reference questions or book recommendations!  

Please note our new hours (subject to change – please check our website or call before coming):

Mondays,  Wednesdays, Fridays – 9:30 am-5 pm

Tuesdays 9:30 am-7 pm

Thursdays 11 am-7 pm

Saturdays 9:30 am-2 pm

All items must be returned in the book drop and will be in quarantine for 7-10 days. The items stay on your card during this time. You will not be charged overdues for the time the items are quarantining.

The library will be closed on Thursday, December 24 and Friday, December 25 for Christmas. For the New Year’s holiday we will close at 1 pm on Thursday, December 31 and reopen on Saturday, January 2 at 9:30 am.

Events will be held virtually at this time via Zoom.  Please register for any programs by emailing reference@clarklibrary.org and state which program you would like to attend and you will be sent a link to the meeting.  You may also register through the online calendar on our website at clarklibrary.org.

Monthly Boredom Buster for Kids

Each month we have a new take home craft for kids to pick up and make at their leisure.  While supplies last, no registration.

Take Out Adult DIY Craft: Holiday T-Shirts with Iron-on Vinyl

Monthly Adult DIY Craft provides a take-out kit which you can make it at home without a Zoom class. It includes instructions. Pick up a material bag at the Reference Desk starting Monday, December 7. Registration is not required. Open to adults (18 and older) while supplies last.  

Teen Take-Out Craft: Magic Scratch Holiday Ornaments

Pick up a Magic Scratch Holiday Ornament kit at the reference desk starting Monday, December 7. The kit will include supplies and instructions. Open to teens in Grades 6-12 while supplies last. 

Read to Sophie by Appointment

Sophie the therapy dog is available to listen to your child practice reading via Zoom!  She is has very flexible availability.  Please email ReadToSophie@gmail.com to make an appointment.

[Virtual] Baby Bookworms on Tuesdays, December 1, 8, and 15 at 10:00 am

Baby Bookworms is virtual via Zoom!  Babies and toddlers are invited to hear some books, and learn some songs, rhymes, lap bounces, and fingerplays!  Please register to get the Zoom link to attend.

[Adult Craft] Holiday Wood Photo Block on Wednesday, December 2 at 11:00 am

Join us for a Pick Up & Zoom craft class for adults. We will paint a wood photo block and decorate with Cricut vinyl of Holiday themes. After registering, you will be emailed to pick up the materials a few days before the class and be sent the Zoom link to make it together. Register through our online calendar or emailreference@clarklibrary.org and a Zoom invitation will be sent before meeting.   

[Virtual] What’s New Book Club for Kids on Wednesday, December 2 at 4:00 pm

Join us via Zoom to see what new and interesting books are available at the library for kids!  Kids will also have time to share their favorites with us!  Please register to receive the Zoom link.

[Virtual] 8 Minute Lego Challenges on Thursday, December 3 at 4:00 pm

Join us via Zoom to express your creativity with our Timed Lego Building Challenge.  Kids will get a prompt, such as a “piece of furniture” and then have 8 minutes to build it with Lego.  There will be an hour filled with different prompts! If you do not have your own Lego, please contact the Children’s Department of the library. 

[Virtual] Preschool Story & Craft on Fridays, December 4, 11, and 18 at 10:00 am

Stories, rhymes, songs, and simple craft on Zoom. Please register to be sent a materials list in advance of the program.  If you need some of the materials contact us at least a day in advance to get them through curbside pickup.  Please register to get the Zoom link. 

[Virtual] Adult Coloring Club on Fridays December 4, 11, and 18 at 11:00 am (New Time)

Coloring is a great way to unwind and relieve some stress! Pick up coloring sheets and crayons at the library and meet up on Zoom for some soothing music and relaxation. Once you register, you’ll be emailed when your supplies are ready to be picked up at the library.

[Virtual] Database Class: Explore The Star-Ledger Collection & NewsBank on Wednesday, December 9 at 7:00 pm

Clark Public Library patrons now have access to The Star Ledger and 150 other newspapers through the NewsBank database. Learn how to search current and archived issues with full-color newspaper pages, full-text articles and content only published online. A Zoom meeting invitation will be sent before the class. 

[Virtual] Eastern State Penitentiary and Prisons Today on Thursday, December 10 at 4:00 pm

Eastern State’s history matters today more than ever. This in-depth virtual group tour explores the history of Eastern State and the experiences of men, women and children who lived and worked behind its walls. This program sets the stage for conversations about criminal justice reform today. Please register to receive the Zoom link, which will be emailed to you.

[Virtual] Family Game Night on Thursday, December 10 at 6:30 pm

Join us on Zoom for a monthly family game!  This month we will play BINGO!  Individuals of all ages are welcome, family attendance is not required! We will play 2 traditional rounds and at least one holiday round! Prizes for winners and runners up! Please register to get the Zoom link.

Teen Take & Make: Frosted Holiday Votive Candle Holders on Monday, December 14 at 4:00pm

This month we will be making frosted holiday votive candle holders (with an included battery-operated tea light.) Once you register, you’ll be emailed when your supplies are ready to be picked up at the library. Join us for an optional online get-together as we make the candle holders together over Zoom. Open to teens in Grades 6-12.

[Adult Painting] Winter Forest Scene on Wednesday, December 16 at 11:00 am

Join us for a Pick Up & Zoom craft class for adults. We will paint a winter forest with new acrylic painting techniques on a canvas. After registering, you will be emailed to pick up the materials a few days before the class and be sent the Zoom link to make it together. All materials are provided except a paint brush. Register through our online calendar or email reference@clarklibrary.organd a Zoom invite will be sent before meeting.

Join us in your pjs for an evening storytime session for the family on Zoom.  Please register to get the Zoom link.

[Virtual] Gingerbread Houses for Kids on Monday, December 21 at 4:00 pm

Join us in making non-edible Gingerbread Houses via Zoom.  Supplies will be ready for pickup the week before. Intended for elementary aged children.  *Clark residents will have priority registration.

[Virtual] DIY Kid’s Indoor Games on Tuesday, December 29 at 2:00 pm

Join us over Zoom to make indoor games to play while you are on break from school!  Intended for elementary aged children.  Supplies will be available for pickup beginning the week before.  *Clark residents will have priority registration.

[Virtual] New Year’s Noon Celebration

Children and families are invited to help us celebrate the New Year virtually by making a craft or two and counting down the minutes until noon! Supplies will be available for pick up the week before.  *Clark residents will have priority registration.
