CASA SHaW Receives Funding from State Legislature

Court Appointed Special Advocates of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties (CASA SHaW) has announced that they have been awarded $92,072 from the New Jersey state legislature for the Fiscal Year 2021-2022 to assist with their mission in serving foster children in Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties.

“These government funds allow us to serve abused and neglected children as effectively as we do by training and supporting CASA volunteers, and make sure abused foster children have what they need to thrive in the future,” said Tracey Heisler, Executive Director of CASA SHaW. “We are so grateful to have received this funding because the work we do is important to so many children and families in our region,” said Heisler.

This funding, filtered through the New Jersey Department of Children and Families, will provide necessary training of not only new CASA volunteers in the future, but Peer Coordinators and Traveling Tutors within the program. CASA SHaW has been at the forefront of providing resources to foster children and families for nearly two decades in Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties.

“We have demonstrated, time and time again – even during a global pandemic – that we are able to bring sustainable and real solutions to our tri-county foster community with an incredible amount of success,” said Heisler. “The work we do matters for children who are facing tremendous hardships through no fault of their own. All children need is one stable adult in their life for them to blossom and succeed, and that’s one of the many things we provide for them,” Heisler said.

CASA of Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties is part of a statewide network of community-based, non-profit programs that recruit, screen, train and supervise volunteers to “Speak Up for a Child” removed from home due to abuse or neglect. CASA is the only program in New Jersey that uses trained volunteers to work one-on-one with children, ensuring that each one gets the services needed and achieves permanency in a safe, nurturing home.
