Bridges Outreach 5th annual 5K Run/Walk

Bridges Outreach, Inc. to Host Fifth Annual 5K Run/Walk in Summit on September 30th

Event on the Village Green Supports the Effort to End Chronic Homelessness in Union, Essex Counties

Summit, NJ: On Saturday, September 30th, Bridges Outreach will host its 5th annual 5K Run/Walk event on the Summit Village Green to support the effort to end chronic homelessness in Union and Essex Counties. Community members of all ages are encouraged to join the event as walkers or runners, to assemble Brown Bag Lunches pre- and post-race, and to learn more about the work of Bridges in the community. Stations will be set up to provide information as well as an opportunity to engage in our work by assembling kits and signing up to volunteer. Registration is available at bridgesoutreach.org.

“Last year we helped 76 people exit homelessness, including a person who was chronically homeless right here in Summit. This work is yielding results – and these results are only possible through the support of this generous community”, said Richard Uniacke, Bridges’ President.

For nearly 35 years, Bridges has worked to engage with people experiencing homelessness, often on the streets, in order to distribute things they urgently need, and to understand their circumstances. In the recent past, Bridges has evolved to emphasize providing the case management necessary to help end their experience of homelessness, as well as to prevent imminent homelessness.

Bridges’ mission is to end homelessness through volunteer-driven outreach and individual case management focusing on health, housing, and independence. Bridges ends homelessness by working with clients to obtain and maintain permanent housing through their Project Connect program located in Newark and Summit, NJ. Their mission is achieved through a four- step comprehensive process which includes Street Outreach & Engagement, Intensive Case Management, Housing Navigation & Placement, and Housing Sustainment & Skill Building.

“It takes the entire community to objectively end homelessness – Bridges can’t do this alone. I hope that everyone will come out, join us for the morning, and learn more about this work and how they can help make a difference.”
