A Culture of Collaboration: Sharing a Responsibility For Our ELL Students

The Linden Public School K-12th grade ESL/Bilingual program has been recognized by the state of NJ as a model program for the past 8 years. Since Linden is extremely culturally diverse, the main goal of our ESL/ Bilingual Program is to cater to students of different backgrounds. Some of the languages spoken by our students are: Haitian Creole, Polish, Slovakian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish and many more. As of last year we had approximately 310 students enrolled in the ESL/ Bilingual program. Collaboration between the teachers, staff, parents and administrators, while educating, is imperative to help our students succeed.
The ESL Summer Enrichment program is a great way to help students enforce what they have learned in the past year and build a foundation for the following school year. It is held in the month of July at School #6 and School #9 for the students at the elementary level. The program is also held at the high school, where it serves our middle and high school students. Reading, writing and completing summer reading project are the main focus of the program.
