50 Years of Service to Westfield Celebrated during October

50 Years of Service to Westfield

The Friends of the Westfield Memorial Library (WML) are proud to share 50 years of service to Westfield. In 1972, members of the Westfield College Women’s Club and the PTA Council joined together to form the Friends of the Westfield Memorial Library to “foster interest in the library and enlarge its service to the community.” In recognition of our 50th Anniversary, the Friends will hold events and programs throughout the year.

Starting on Thursday, October 14, we will hold a reception at the Library to unveil the recently decorated Arches leading into the Children’s section. Caron Frost Olmsted of CFO Design, the artist who painted the Arches, will give a talk on the artistic process behind the Arches as an enchanted forest. The event will also highlight the recently added furniture in the Children’s section purchased by the Friends as well as other contributions to the Library over the years. Entertainment and refreshments will be served.

On Sunday, October 17, from Noon until 2:00 we will host a children’s program (ages 5-9) to include Storytime by the Children’s Library staff, tours of the Arches, an art project, a live animal presentation by Eyes of the Wild Animal Rescue and refreshments.

To register for these free events go to wmlnj.org/Events. During the course of the coming year there will be additional events celebrating our 50 years of service to the Westfield Community. Be sure to visit our website at fwmlnj.org often to stay up-to-date.
