The Summit Elks proudly sent four representatives— Charlotte Atkins, Zoe Berliner, Billy Hamm, and Brandon Jacobs—to the State Finals of the Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest.

The Free Throw Contest, which has had more children participating than any other sports competition in the country, is for boys and girls between the ages of eight and 13. Contestants shoot 25 free throws at local, district, state and national levels.

Our four contenders had earned the right to compete in the NJ State Finals by first winning the Summit Elks Local contest as well as the East Central District contest in Rahway.

Zoe Berliner, who competed in the contests for 10- to 11-year-old girls, finished in second place in this highly-competitive state contest. Zoe is the daughter of Elks member Noah Berliner. She attends Gill St. Bernard’s School in Gladstone and plays on the Summit Grade 5 Traveling Basketball team.

Members of the Summit Elks are very proud of Zoe’s accomplishment as well as the work that Charlotte, Billy, and Brandon put into the contest. We look forward to next year’s event when most of the children that we have sponsored will be able to compete again.
