Scotch Plains Library Youth Programs August 2021

The Scotch Plains Public Library has a full calendar of programs for children and teens this August! Registration is required for all of our events and can be done by visiting our website.

On Going Programs

On Mondays, August 2, August 9, August 16 & August 23 at 9:30am, families can join us for our Virtual Storytime at 9:30am. This program is for all ages and open to SP and neighboring families.

On Tuesdays, August 3, August 10, August 17 & August 24, families with children 2 years and under can join us for our Outdoor Little Listeners Storytime at 9:30am

On Wednesdays, August 4 and 18, at 4pm, kids in grades 3-7 are invited to join The Comics Kids, a graphic novel club! Discuss your favorite comics and graphic novels, and make and share your own art.

On Wednesdays, August 4, August 11, August 18 & August 25, families with children ages 2-5 can join us for our Outdoor Rise & Shine Storytime at 9:30am.

On Thursdays, August 5, August 12, August 19 & August 26, families with children ages 2-5 can join us for our Storytime in the Park at 9:30am. 

On Saturdays August 7, August 14, August 21, &  August 28, families can join us for our Super Saturday Storytime at 11:00am. This program is for all ages and open to SP and neighboring families.

Specials

On Thursday, August 5 at 6:30pm, elementary students are invited to join us for Beyond Stories. This program includes longer, non-fiction titles and a related activity. 

On Wednesday, August 11 at 10:30am, students entering K- 5th grade can attend Bubble Painting and create their own art using colorful bubbles. 

On Thursday, August 12 at 4pm and Monday, August 23 at 10:30am students entering K- 5th grade can learn how to make their ownCorner Bookmarks

On Mondays, August 2, August 9 & August 16 at 10am students entering 3rd -5th grades can enjoy Mindful Mondays. This program incorporates yoga and mindfulness with guest instructor Yen Leung.

On Wednesday, August 18 at 10:30am, students entering K – 5th grade can join us to make their own Thaumatropes. Thaumatropes are fun optical illusion toys. 

For Grades 6-12

Fledgling Foodies is a cooking club: on 8/10 we’ll be making rainbow wraps and on 8/16 we’re making dessert terrariums! This program is virtual and starts at 4pm. 

On Wednesday, 8/11, at 4:00pm, visit the Craft Cafe to sculpt a planter, and enjoy a cold drink and snack while you work.

Anime Club meets on 8/12 and 8/24 at 4:00pm – hang out with fellow anime fans, watch episodes, snack, and discuss! 

Trivia Night is scheduled for Tuesday, 8/17, at 6:30pm. Bring friends and show off your knowledge of books, pop culture, memes, and more!
