Westfield Students Raise Funds for Hurricane Victims

The Kindness Club at Roosevelt Intermediate School in Westfield extended its fundraising efforts for Hurricane Harvey victims at the town’s Festifall on Sunday, September 24. By setting up a booth at the annual event, the student and teacher volunteers collected a total of $1,100 that will be used to purchase school supplies for two schools in the Houston area affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Earlier this month at Back to School Night, Roosevelt’s Kindness Club raised $500, which made possible the purchase of school supplies for Kolter Elementary School in Houston.  Seguin Elementary also will be the recipient of supplies thanks to the continued success of the fundraising efforts.
Alexandra Cicala, the seventh grader who introduced the idea of a Kindness Club at Roosevelt last year explained, “I wanted to create The Kindness Club because I wanted to create a club that would help the community with acts of kindness each month. This is important because right now, the world needs more kindness.”
Co-adviser Cristina Caprara added, “I am so proud of each and every Kindness Club member for all of their hard work and dedication towards this cause. We have had some devastating natural disasters, one specifically being Hurricane Harvey, and the Kindness Club was eager to start helping in any way possible. We are extremely thankful for all of the donations received at Festifall and are very excited to use the money to help our Texas teachers and students get back on their feet. A small act of kindness can go a long way, even if it’s in miles!”
