Westfield Police Department holds Candlelight Vigil

May 13, 2020 would have been the 32nd Annual Candlelight Vigil on the National Mall in Washington DC where more than 30,000 first responders, surviving families and law enforcement supporters gather to honor the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. For the past several years, members of the Westfield Police Department participated in the Police Unity Tour, a 320-mile, 4-day bicycle ride from NJ to Washington DC to raise awareness and funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Due to the pandemic, all activities were cancelled.

This year, 307 names are being engraved on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC, bringing the total to 22,217 officers killed in the line of duty memorialized there. Five riders from the Westfield Team gathered together for their own, social distanced, candlelight vigil at Westfield Police Headquarters. Also, the fountain at Mindowaskin Park was lit up blue to honor first responders.
