Submitted by James Bodajlo

On August 12, 2020, the top seed Watchung Hills Warriors 8U travel baseball team won the New Providence Green League Championship by defeating third seed SJBS Summit 8U with a score of 11-1.

On a steamy night at the Warren Municipal Complex, the Warriors led by dominant pitching from starter Peter S, who went 2 innings, and Michael D, who threw for 3 innings. These ace hurlers combined for 9 strikeouts while only giving up 2 hits.

Watchung Hills took charge right from the start by retiring Summit in the top of the 1stand then jumping out to a 5-0 lead registering 4 hits, 1 walk and 3 hit batsmen without recording an out. Peter S led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a single by Michael D. Chase S and Roman R were then both hit by pitches resulting in the first run. Richard S followed with a single to drive in the second run and Owen D walked to push across the third run. Dylan (D-Man) W was hit by a pitch to plate the fourth run and the inning was closed out when Benjamin B got a hit to drive in the fifth run.

Peter S struck out the side in the second inning and Watchung Hills extended their lead by scoring 2 more runs in the bottom of the inning on RBI singles by Chase S and Roman R.

Summit got on the board in the 3rd scoring a run on two singles and two groundouts to move the runners around. Watchung Hills concluded the scoring in the bottom of the third on a 2-run double by Peter S, an error and an RBI double by Chase S.

Michael D controlled the game in the last two innings, striking out four batters, catching a pop up and retiring the last batter of the game on a comebacker.

After finishing the regular season 6-4, the Warriors brought their best in the playoffs. Congratulations to the entire team:
