The Warren Township Committee is pleased to announce the opening of the Warren Park & Ride.
As of September 4, 2018, Warren Township residents who commute between Warren and the NY Port Authority Bus Terminal can park in the Parking Deck of Building 300 of the Warren Corporate Center off King George Road near I-78 Exit 36 and take an express bus connecting the Township to PANY.
Spaces assigned specifically to the commuters are being made available by the Center’s owner, Vision Real Estate Partners, through an agreement with the Warren Township.
Lakeland Bus Company of Dover, New Jersey, will provide a brand new 57-seat ADA-compliant express bus which will leave Warren Township weekday mornings at 6:45 a.m. directly for NYC (there are no stops between the Park & Ride and the Port Authority Terminal). Commuters can return in the evening from NY Port Authority at 5:45 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The returning bus is not a Warren-only ride; therefore passengers will have to tell the driver to bring them to the Warren Township lot.
The idea for the commuter lot grew out of a survey of nearly 900 Warren residents conducted by the Township Committee with the professional assistance of Ridewise, a commuter advocacy group, and the Somerset County Planning Board. The Committee used the results of the survey to encourage Lakeland Bus to provide dedicated express service from Warren to the NY Port Authority.
“Warren residents who completed the survey were very strongly in support of a Park & Ride in the Township, so the Committee worked hard to address that need,” said George Lazo, Township Committee Liaison to the project. “By showing that 86% of those who responded wanted the Park & Ride, we were able to convince Lakeland Bus that there is a significant ridership in Warren for dedicated express service to the NY Port Authority.”
According to Committeeman Lazo, the location at Warren Corporate Center is a temporary one. The Township Committee will evaluate the program and then determine a permanent location for the commuter lot.
Mayor Victor Sordillo expressed his appreciation to Vision Real Estate Partners for assisting the Township in providing available parking at their facility.
A permit is required to use the lot. Warren Township residents can obtain the permit by contacting the Warren Township Clerk’s Office. Registration is on a “first come, first serve” basis. There is currently no fee for the permit, but Warren Township residents must show proof of residency.
“The Park and Ride enhances the quality of life for many Township residents and improves property values for all of us,” said Committeeman Lazo.
