Warren Boy Scout campout
Submitted by Andrew Connolly, First Class Scout, Warren Troop 228
Every year, Troop 228 Boy Scouts host a joint campout with Cub Scouts from our Pack 182, to help the Cub Scouts meet their rank advancement requirements. This year the weekend of learning, fun, and food started Friday night, September 30th and ran through Sunday morning.
On Friday night, the Boy Scouts set up camp at Morecraft Farms right here in Warren. We spent Saturday morning cooking and eating breakfast under the Elks Pavilion, where we had to relocate temporarily due to the weather. When the AOLS and Webelos arrived, the Boy Scouts formed stations that the Cub Scouts could rotate through and learn different skills. Some stations included First Aid, Knot Tying, and learning how to properly use an axe.
Saturday afternoon was spent eating lunch in the rain at Morecraft Farm. Scouts were able to relax in their tents, hang by the campfire, or explore the property around the campsite. A highlight of the day was when adult leaders Matthew Hammond, Adam Gioia, and Loren Bush kindly set up a station where all scouts were able to brand their initials and troop number into a fallen tree limb. At night, several rounds of Manhunt were played. All the kids had a great time and left with a smile on their faces Sunday morning.
Warren Troop 228 is sponsored by the Elks, and welcomes youth year-round – learn more about us on the web at troop228warren.org or find us on Facebook at bsatroop228warrennj.
