Warren Boy Scout Troop Annual Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser 2018

By Gretchn Minieri

Warren Boy Scout Troop 228 recently held their annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser. It was a culinary and fundraising success! Thirty-four scouts served over 325 dinners in a three-hour period. Our scout dads cooked up a delicious dinner and our small army of volunteers worked the salad, drink, and dessert stations throughout the night.
This dinner is an essential fundraising activity that helps cover troop expenses. It also provides a great opportunity for the boys to “serve” their community and for our guests to observe our young men in action. Thank you to all the local businesses that supported our troop by placing ads in our color advertising booklet, which was given to each dinner guest. Our troop is very thankful to have the support of our local community.
Advancement Chair Kathy Giacchi was honored by the Warren Township Committee during the May 10, 2018 meeting for her 22 years of volunteer service with Troop 228. Mrs. Giacchi has painstakingly tracked each and every scout’s completion of their requirements through Eagle rank for the last 19 years! Her contributions to making Troop 228 successful were appreciated and she will be missed as she leaves us this spring.
Over 100 bags of non-perishable groceries were collected by the scouts through the BSA “Scouting for Food” initiative and donated to the Somerset County Food Bank. This nationwide program has scouts ask neighbors to donate a bag full of shelf stable groceries, and then those bags are collected and brought to the local food bank.
