Volunteers Raise Awareness About Fire Safety in Linden

LINDEN, NJ – Volunteers with the American Red Cross, Linden Fire Department and Linden High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) prepare to go door-to-door in the city’s 5th and 8thWards to install free smoke alarms and talk to families about fire safety on Saturday, April 18, 2015 in Linden, New Jersey. The City of Linden and the Linden Fire Department have partnered with the Red Cross for its Home Fire Preparedness Campaign aimed to reduce deaths and injuries from home fires nationwide by as much as 25 percent and during Saturday’s initial partnership event, volunteers reached more than 450 Linden homes with fire safety information

Linden residents may schedule an appointment to have free smoke alarms installed in their home by contacting the Linden Fire Prevention Department at (908) 474-4560.

Since the launch of the five-year Home Fire Preparedness Campaign in October, the Red Cross North Jersey Region and its community partners have installed more than 1,000 smoke alarms in cities including East Orange, Perth Amboy, Jersey City, Orange, Linden and Paterson and urge everyone to learn more about fire safety and access free tools and resources available at redcross.org/firesafety.
