Valley Road Second Graders Become Scientists
Second grade classes in Mrs. Petela’s, Ms. Mazzucco’s, and Ms. Bell’s classes at Valley Road School became scientists as they conducted an experiment to show capillary action.
Students observed how the color water moved from one cup to the next via a paper towel to show capillary action. Prior to the experiment, students made predictions in their science journals. Upon completion, students recorded their observations in their journals and examined whether their predictions were correct.
Mrs. Petela stated, “This experiment brought science to life for the students. Through using the scientific method, students were able to see first-hand how liquids flow through capillary action.”
