Union HS Seniors Collect, Donate for Adoption Day

Every child adopted during a recent Adoption Day celebration at the Union County Superior Courthouse received board games for family game night and fleece blankets for getting cozy, thanks to Union High School students and staff who donated the items to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Union County, a nonprofit that advocates for local foster children. Senior class advisor Megan Kaplan said students were curious about Adoption Day and after explaining the need and purpose of the day, she said momentum grew “through word of mouth, fliers around the building and morning and afternoon announcements, and more than 20 students and staff donated, and were excited to learn where the donations would be going.” Among the students were, from left, David Lam, Reyanna Lawrence, Anaiya Turpin and Stephanie Arajuo. Lam noted, “It was pretty cool to be able to help a person by getting them a game. It was nice to help a person feel good and be happy.” CASA of Union County incorporated the school donations into gift baskets for each adoptee and their family.
