Union High School Seniors Participate in Kean University’s “The Future Teachers’ Academy”

In conjunction with Kean University, eighteen senior students from Union High School were invited to a program on November 30, 2018. The Future Teachers’ Academy event included an address by Dr. Anthony Pittman, Acting Dean for the College of Education. Dean Pittman spoke to students on topics related to trends in education and the need for highly qualified educators. An additional session presented by  the admissions department discussed the various majors and extracurricular opportunities available to students at the University. Union High School Seniors  participated in various break out sessions and had the opportunity to interact with faculty and students of the University as well as students from other area high schools. Ron Zieser, a teacher at UHS who chaperoned the trip stated, “This is a great opportunity for our students to experience college life and to become more familiar with the teaching profession.”
Senior Britney Kennedy, who was recently accepted to Kean described her day as, “I felt like I learned how to become a better teacher in the future.”

Nicole Ahern, Supervisor of Counseling for the district shared that, “We are looking forward to a district partnership with Kean where we can develop future courses at Union High School to promote becoming an educator as a career.”
