UNION FIRE DEPARTMENT TO HOST 9/11 MEMORIALv

Submitted by Fire Chief Michael Scanio

Members of the Community are invited to participate in a September 11th Remembrance Ceremony on Monday, September 11, at Union Fire Headquarters located on Bond Drive.

The ceremony will start promptly at 8:46 a.m., the time the North Tower was struck,  with the reading of the 23 NYPD names and 37 Port authority names of the officers that died that day. At 9:03 a.m., the time the South Tower was struck, the names of the 343 FDNY firefighters that died that day will be read. The chimes are actually 3 sets of 5, not “two bell chimes.”

I would like to invite the community to attend the ceremony and visit the Memorial Park located next to Union Fire Headquarters. This memorial is dedicated to the members of the Union Fire Dept including the 2 line of duty deaths that occurred in Union, and  the 9-11 tribute which includes a piece of the World Trade Center and a piece of the Pentagon, Union Fire Department is one of only a few departments within the state that has a piece of both sites that were attacked that day.
