Turning Grapes into Vino

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Chapter of UNICO gathers annually for an Italian tradition, homemade winemaking. This year, the chapter made a Super Tuscany Blend, a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet grapes. With the help of George Featherman and other staff members of Grape Expectations in Bridgewater, the process began with the grape crushing. A week later, the grape pressing took place. The wine will continue to ferment, then age and condition for several months. The final Super Tuscany blend will be bottled and ready to enjoy in late spring.

UNICO National is the largest Italian-American organization in the US. Our objective is to promote the image of Italian Americans, to serve the community, and to contribute to charitable, cultural and educational organizations and projects.
