Troop 17 Scouts Summer Camp
Submitted by Kevin Radics
More than three dozen Troop 17 Scouts and leaders visited Yawgoog Reservation in Rockville, Rhode Island for summer camp. We spent seven days and six nights at the 107-year-old camp at a pond-side site that provided a cool breeze at night and a great spot to swim, sail, kayak, stand-up paddle, and canoe.
During the week Troop 17 Scouts earned a total of 155 merit badges. The merit badges covered a wide array of topics, including Art, Forestry, Canoeing, Citizenship in the World, and Plumbing. Scouts working on the Wilderness Survival merit badge built their own shelters out of branches and leaves and spent the night under the stars.
In their free time, Scouts enjoyed fishing from the shoreline, running through a blowup obstacle course, and playing games with friends. A highlight of the week was climbing and bouncing on the inflatable floating water slides—the perfect way to beat the heat.
Troop 17 meets on Thursday nights at St. Rose of Lima in Short Hills and is accepting new members for the upcoming Scouting year. Please visit Troop17ShortHills.com to learn more.
