TMC Scholarship Social 2024

The Thursday Morning Club (TMC) held its annual Scholarship Social in January to raise funds for the 2024 Girls’ Career Institute (GCI) and Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Foundation (HOBY) scholarships. 60 TMC members attended the Social, enjoying a light lunch while being entertained by Helen Kilman playing the flute.

GCI is an annual program held for three days at Douglass College and sponsored by the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs (NJSFWC) to give high school seniors an opportunity to participate in ‘mini’ college activities and dorm living. HOBY is an annual three- day leadership seminar of inspiring speakers, skill-building activities, and community service for high school sophomores.

Madison High senior, Camryn Morales, chosen for the TMC sponsored 2023 GCI scholarship, spoke at the Scholarship Social and noted “GCI was a special experience. I found the workshops and lectures very interesting and enjoyed meeting the other GCI recipients and Douglass College campus living”. Helen Kilman, MHS junior, chosen for the 2023 HOBY award, also spoke, noting “The HOBY leadership conference was inspiring. Participating in the programs and activities and getting to know other HOBY scholarship recipients was a great experience”.  TMC members, Eleanor Flanigan and Aideen O’Donnell, co-chair the Education Committee, which works with the Madison Guidance Department to choose recipients of the GCI and HOBY scholarships and hosts the Scholarship Social.

The Thursday Morning Club, organized in 1896, is a non-profit which provides services for Madison area communities. It owns, operates, and maintains the Madison Community House and is a member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s clubs (NJSFWC) and of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC).
