Varsity softball players Shanel Stradford, Shantal Stradford and Chantal Winstead have now proudly achieved the milestone of having accomplished over 100 base hits since their freshman year. Each of the three talented athletes served as varsity starters, receiving “All County” or “All Conference” recognition throughout their years at Rahway High. Ms. Winstead will be continuing her softball career this fall at Monroe College in New York.
Head softball coach Bill Picone feels a particular kinship with each of the girls as he recalls, “My first year coaching was their freshman year. In a way, we were all freshmen together. It will be very strange to take the field next year without them.” The feeling is definitely mutual as Shanel Stradford shares, “We all love Mr. P. and consider him family. He was behind us through all the strike-outs, home runs, bunts, and plain singles. We wouldn’t want any other coach in our senior year!”
