On Friday, October 13th, 285 Pre-K and Kindergarten students from Lincoln Elementary School participated in the Parent Teacher Organization’s annual pumpkin patch. That morning, Schieferstein’s Farm delivered truckloads of supplies, including 450 sugar pumpkins to the field in front of The Lincoln School.
As part of this fall experience, students took a break from their daily classroom routine to partake in festivities including pumpkin picking, storytelling on hay bales and a pumpkin-themed relay race.
The featured book, The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin, by Joe Traiano was recited by a parent volunteer to each class, emphasizing to students an important message about tolerance and kindness and that being different is “cool.”
Parents were also able to show their spirit by reading the book to their child’s class or leading the students in a game, where students worked collaboratively on teams during the pumpkin-themed relay race. More than 50 parents came out to show their support.
The Lincoln School’s kindergarten teacher, Linda Steele shared, “The students are very excited about the book we read, game we play and picking their own pumpkins. Upon return to the classroom, we write about our experiences and draw pictures to accompany them.”
All proceeds generated by this event will benefit The Lincoln School.
