The Cat in the Hat Visits Franklin Elementary School
On the morning of February 10, the PreKindergarten through Second-Grade students of Franklin Elementary School in Rahway gathered together in the auditorium. They were there to listen to the story The Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss read aloud by the School Library Media Specialist, Susan Farrar.
Ms. Farrar prepared this assembly because she had a fabulous surprise she wanted to share with them. As she read the first few pages and came to the text that read, …”We looked! Then we saw him step in on the mat!”, The New Jersey Education Association’s The Cat in the Hat made an appearance.
The Cat in the Hat then acted out the story as Ms. Farrar continued to read. The Cat was also joined by the story characters, Thing 1 and Thing 2, who were exceptionally portrayed by Sixth-Grade students, Julia Monzon and Leandro Garcia Phillips.
As the visit came to an end, The Cat in the Hat was asked by Ms. Farrar to share his secret to becoming a better reader with the students, which was simply put “Read!, Read!, Read!”
The students were thrilled to receive a visit from one of their favorite fictional characters. As the students were leaving the auditorium, The Cat in the Hat honored each student by giving them a “high-five”. It was a wonderful morning had by all!
