Summit Public Library Offer Virtual Programs throughout October

October Fun at the Summit Library

The Summit Free Public Library will continue virtual programming via Zoom in October with a number of informative programs being offered for adults.

The library’s popular Explore Your World: Minicourses for Adults series continues on Friday, October 23 at 2:00 p.m. with the return of perennial favorite, Robert Comeau of Union County Community College presenting The Great American Road Novel. This seven-week minicourse will explore and journey through four great American ‘Road’ novels, each with their own unique perspective on the myth it presents. Comeau will discuss William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying; John Steinback’s The Grapes of Wrath; Jack Kerouac’s On the Road; and John Updike’s Rabbit, Run! Attendees can read each novel before the start of class-the library will have copies of each book available.

Bestselling author and professional organizer Jamie Novak returns (via Zoom!) to present 3 classes. The first, Three Steps to Write & Publish Your Story will take place on Thursday, October 8 at 7 p.m. Jamie will discuss both traditional and self-publishing, cover how to find time to write and will answer questions related to sending your work out to agents and how to evaluate proposals to publish. On Thursday, October 15 at 7 p.m. Jamie will present Ten Things You Never Knew about De-cluttering. If you have too much stuff—or are looking to downsize-this program is for you! Jamie will guide you through a live mini-decluttering session. By the end of this informative program you’ll be prepared to successfully tackle any de-cluttering project! Jamie wraps up her series of programs on Thursday, October 22 at 7 p.m. with Getting Organized? Never Throw These Things Out! Jamie will cover the things you should never toss while you’re in the process of getting organized. She offers another live mini de-cluttering session and helps you start your own list of things to keep while de-cluttering your house!

Looking to stay fit? Zumba classes continue at 10 a.m. every Monday through the month of October. Led by Audrey Raney each hour-long Zumba class will help you stay fit no matter the weather outside!

Take me out to the ball game! On Tuesday, October 20 at 7 p.m., sports journalist and author Evan Weiner will present Baseball in the American Culture. Evan will explore the cultural history of America’s favorite pastime in this illustrative talk!

Feeling anxious? Who isn’t during these stressful times? Presenter Umesh Bhatia, a long-time meditator, will present Reducing Anxiety through Meditation on Tuesday, October 27 at 7 p.m. He’ll show you how to calm your body and mind using meditation techniques and show you how to find a place of happiness and peace within yourself to reduce anxiety and fortify against the stresses of life.

The month wraps up with Trivia Night on Friday, October 30 at 7 p.m. Quizmaster Mary Piekarski will challenge you with trivia questions—geared generally toward folks age 18 and above—but everyone is welcome to participate!
