City of Summit Invites Public to Opening of its Newly-Renovated Community Center
On Thursday, May 30, 2019 from 3 to 8 p.m., the City of Summit Department of Community Programs will host the grand opening of its new community center at 100 Morris Ave. in Summit, NJ. Members of the public are invited to tour the renovated building that has undergone a $6.5M refurbishment beginning in September 2017. Upgrades to the 65-year-old building include a 17,000 square foot expansion that doubles its original size, a new gymnasium financed by Investors Bank with a high school regulation size basketball court, and a designated building wing for senior citizen activities funded by Celgene Corporation. The revamped community center will also continue to serve as the headquarters for the city’s Department of Community Programs.
“Please join city staff for a tour of our spectacular new community center on May 30,” states Summit Mayor Nora Radest. “Now that the renovation project is complete, we look forward to welcoming the entire community to this beautiful and accessible new space funded through a combination of generous public and private donations.”
Radest continues: “The Department of Community Programs offers programs for residents of all ages and abilities and will be able to expand these offerings in its updated location.”
The new Summit Community Center will have its public grand opening from 3PM to 8PM on Thursday, May 30 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4PM. More information about the event can be found at the City of Summit website.
